A special weather statement has been issued for parts of Ontario due to possible strong winds on Friday.

Environment Canada issued the statement for parts of southern Ontario, as well as more northern areas.

Huron County, Barrie and North Bay are among the affected areas.

The weather agency said strong winds with gusts of 70 km/h to 90 km/h are possible late Friday morning into Friday evening.

“Strong southwesterly winds will develop Friday as a low pressure system pushes over northeastern Ontario,” the statement said.

“(The) strongest winds are expected along Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. Wind warnings may be needed for some areas as the event draws closer.”

Meanwhile, southern Ontario was hit with moderate-to-heavy rainfall Thursday morning.
