The milder temperatures on the weekend broke records across the province.

Although Environment Canada was predicting “significant” weather with snow and wind on Sunday in some parts of Ontario, milder temperatures on Saturday (Dec. 9) broke some records.

The “unseasonably warm weather” on Saturday brought above-average temperatures across the province, according to Environment Canada.

In Mississauga, the temperature didn’t quite break the Dec. 9 record of 13.9 C set in 1966. The high was just shy of that at 13.1 C.  Hamilton’s warmest temperature on Dec. 9 was also in 1966 at 14.4 C. And this past Saturday, the high was 12.1 C, according to Environment Canada.

But nearby areas, such as Oakville and Caledon, did break records.

The following areas set a daily maximum temperature (in Celsius) record on Dec. 9:

  • Caledon area – New record of 11, old record of 10.6 set in 1924 (Records in this area have been kept since 1887)
