The Milton Public Library (MPL) is seeking volunteers to help maintain the Indigenous garden at the Beaty branch.

In honour of National Indigenous History Month, the MPL is encouraging residents to volunteer at the garden, while simultaneously learning about Indigenous stories.

This year, the MPL received $50,000 in funding from the Government of Canada’s Healthy Communities Initiative.

In collaboration with local Indigenous organization Grandmother’s Voice, MPL recently planted a new Indigenous Garden with Miinikaan (‘the SEED in Ojibwe).

According to the MPL, the purpose of the garden is to “inspire a more inclusive, inviting and vibrant community space and to offer an opportunity to cultivate the garden.”

Those who are interested in volunteering are encouraged to register online and are reminded to bring a hat, gloves and sunscreen.
