dump truck crash hwy 401

A video, just emerging now, shows a driver honking at the dump truck driver who smashed into a bridge on Hwy. 401 in Mississauga.

The crash caused chaos on Hwy. 401 yesterday (Oct. 19) delaying drivers as all the eastbound express lanes approaching Mavis Road were closed around 7 a.m. The lanes were closed until approximately 3 p.m. while crews cleaned up and assessed damage to the pedestrian bridge.

The video posted to YouTube by Alejandro Ruiz, appears to be dash cam footage showing the driver honking as he notices the dump truck box in the open position.

He swears and the truck gets closer to the bridge.

Then the truck box hits the pedestrian bridge making a loud noise and causing sparks to fly.

“F**k!” he says. “S**t!”

The driver then proceeds slowly past the crash.

The truck broke apart in the crash leaving the box behind stuck under the bridge.

The truck driver was charged with unsafe vehicle and fail to perform prescribed inspection, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told insauga.com.

The truck driver was not injured.
