A park in Oakville has been officially named after Veronica Tyrrell, the former long-time president of the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton (CCAH).

Veronica Tyrrell Park is located at 3183 Buttonbush Trail. Town officials, family and friends of Tyrrell gathered there recently for the dedication ceremony.

Tyrrell, who died at age 81 in 2018, was a champion of black history in Oakville and worked tirelessly to promote Caribbean culture through the CCAH.

She was actively involved in Black History Month activities and promoting culture and performing arts and helped newcomers arriving from Caribbean nations settle in Oakville and Halton Region.

Further, Tyrrell worked to promote the role Oakville had in the Underground Railroad and the contributions made by Black citizens to the community.
