Video: Massive recreation centre expansion will open ahead of schedule in Caledon

It’s been some two years in the making, but the doors are nearly ready to open on an upgraded recreation centre in Caledon loaded with amenities for the public to enjoy.
It’s been some two years in the making, but a sprawling new recreation centre loaded with amenities is nearly ready to open in Caledon.
The new 52,000-square-foot expansion of the Caledon East Community Complex (CECC) is nearly complete, the town said in a release this week.
With a new swimming pool, fitness centre, library and many more features, Mayor Annette Groves says the rec plex has “been transformed into a state-of-the-art facility” and will be the largest multi-use recreation facility in Caledon.
What’s more, the work is expected to be finished ahead of schedule opening on Sept. 5, with an official grand opening celebration on Sept. 16.
“This project has been a significant undertaking for the team,” said Groves.

“Completing this elaborate expansion project over three months ahead of schedule is an amazing accomplishment, and a key example of the Town of Caledon’s commitment to providing quality facilities to our residents.”
Other amenities will include a maker space, an indoor walking track overlooking a full-size gymnasium, an outdoor rink and pavilion coming in the winter of 2024, multi-purpose and meeting spaces, and a dedicated section for the Caledon Sports Hall of Fame.
In addition to the new recreation amenities, the expansion will add an outdoor dog water station, a new pro shop and a full-service café that will feature hot and cold food menu items and concession options.
“Staff have been working hard over the last few months to complete this large expansion project so that the CECC could offer a full slate of fall programming,” said Catherine McLean, Director of Community Services. “The CECC will complement the Caledon East Civic Campus and promote active lifestyles for residents.”
The CECC officially opens on Sept. 5 with the grand opening celebration on Sept. 16.
