Firefighting crews and emergency services are responding to a major fire in Mississauga this afternoon (June 7).

Shortly before noon, a large commercial fire was reported in the area of Cawthra Rd and Dundas St East, with heavy smoke visible at the scene.

Responding Peel police officers have evacuated the RONA hardware store and shut down the CN rail line in the area. There’s no word on any injuries at this time.

The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.

More information to come as the investigation continues.

UPDATE:

The fire broke out at a large vacant commercial building on CP Railway property, according to Mississauga Fire Chief Deryn Rizzi.

“Firefighters began with a defensive fire attack due to initial reports of exploding propane tanks within the building. A fire was located and quickly extinguished by responding firefighters,” said Rizzi.

There were no injuries.

Railway tracks in the area have since reopened.
