A video of a cyclist riding on the QEW in Mississauga is circulating on social media.

The cyclist was captured heading westbound on the QEW yesterday (Feb. 21) afternoon, according to posts on Reddit and X.

The video shows the man carrying a bright, orange Skip the Dishes pack riding on the side of the highway. He is not wearing a helmet.

The bike appears to be a Movelo brand mountain bike.

Aside from the obvious safety concerns, Ontario laws are clear — bicycles are not allowed on controlled-access highways, according to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.

The act prohibits riding a bicycle, a limited-speed motorcycle or a motorcycle under 50 ccs on controlled-access highways. E-bikes are also not permitted on the 400 series highways and the Queen Elizabeth Way.

A request for comment from Skip the Dishes was not immediately provided. The OPP also did not provide comment and didn’t appear to have a report of the incident.

People on Reddit mentioned seeing this cyclist in other areas.

“I saw this dude biking on QEW from Kipling off ramp…must’ve been hell of a merge to cut across the 427 N off-ramp during rush hour!”

Others were concerned for the rider’s safety.

“It’s so scary to see this,” one person wrote on X.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time cyclists have been spotted riding on a highway. In July, a cyclist was spotted on Highway 410 in Brampton.
