He might be 12 years old, but Brampton rapper Cairo Snow has already appeared on stage with the Wu-Tang Clan and won a $10,000 prize in a song battle competition with connections to superstars like Jay-Z, Post Malone and Megan Thee Stallion.
The up-and-coming performer from Brampton started writing at age 7 and was a contender for the America’s Top Hitmaker competition last year, and was pulled on stage at the Scotiabank Arena during the Wu-Tang Clan’s “The Final Chamber” farewell tour.
And building on last year’s success, Snow was recently crowned champion of the Mic Madness competition, where he won a $10,000 prize.
Created and hosted by industry experts Chris Tyson (who has worked with Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Nas X, and Post Malone) and Rel Carter (Director of Artist Partnerships at Roc Nation and nephew of hip-hop superstar Jay-Z), the song battle went through multiple rounds of intense competition, with Snow facing off against “incredible talent twice his age,” agency DD Entertainment said in a release.
Snow won the contest with his version of the track “Alphabet Aerobics” by Blackalicious, which runs through all 26 letters of the alphabet from A to Z with each verse getting faster than the last.
“This victory places him among a select group of rising global artists recognized by some of the music industry’s most influential voices,” the agency says.
Snow will get studio time working with Tyson and Carter, and a trip to New York City as part of the prize.
And riding the high after his win, Snow is set to release his new single called “Technical Control” on June 17.
“‘Technical Control” hits different, think sharp bars, locked-in production, and a mindset track for anyone building something from the ground up,” the agency says of his upcoming single. “It reinforces the positive, youth-driven message that defines Cairo’s brand as he continues to redefine what youth rap can sound like for a new generation.”
Snow has had airplay on international radio airplay across Canada, USA, Brazil, United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Italy and St. Lucia.
