Victoria Day May 22 in Brampton: What’s Open and Closed

Spring has officially sprung in Brampton just in time for the Victoria Day long weekend, with the holiday Monday falling on May 22 this year.

And while most stores will be closed, there are still shops and restaurants open in Brampton for you to take in while enjoying a break from the daily grind.

It’s also the first Victoria Day long weekend since all personal fireworks were banned in Brampton with fines for anyone caught buying, using or selling fireworks in the city.

Here’s a list of what’s open and what’s closed on Victoria Day in Brampton:


  • All major grocery stores
  • Shoppers World
  • Brampton City Hall
  • Brampton Library branches
  • Banks
  • Brampton Animal Shelter
  • Community Centres
  • LCBO
  • Service Ontario
  • Canada Post

Most Region of Peel services are closed, including:

  • Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA)
  • Access Peel Counters
  • Dental Services Contact Centre
  • Early Years and Child Care Services
  • Family Health Call Centre
  • Healthy Sexuality Clinics
  • COVID-19 vaccine clinics
  • Needle Exchange Program
  • Ontario Works
  • Garbage collection scheduled for Monday will be picked up later in the week
  • TransHelp office (book by 7:00 p.m. on Sunday to reserve travel on May 22 and May 23)


  • Bramalea City Centre (11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., individual store hours may vary)
  • Some restaurants and bars will be open for dine-in, takeout or delivery, but call ahead to be sure
  • Brampton Recreation Centres will be operating at a reduced schedule (check online to be sure)
  • Most Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall locations
  • Some smaller grocery stores
  • Select Beer Store locations ( 180 Sandalwood Pkwy., 198 Queen St. E., and 80 Peel Centre Dr.)


  • Brampton Transit will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule
  • Service counters are closed
  • GO Transit will run on a Saturday schedule
