Residents planning to take the train in the coming weeks may need to reconsider their travel plans.
Via Rail announced this Friday afternoon that they’re suspending service on two of their routes in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Service for Via Rail’s overnight trains (Toronto-Vancouver and Montreal-Halifax) are cancelled from Friday, March 13 until Friday, March 27 — a date which may be extended further.
“Your health and safety as well as those of our employees are at the heart of everything we do at VIA Rail Canada,” the company said in a recent statement. “This decision was made as a measure of great caution in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
Via Rail says all affected passengers have been notified directly, and have apologized for the inconvenience.
The company is pointing customers towards their cancellation policy, which allows riders to cancel their reservation at any time prior to the scheduled departure and receive a full refund.
