Veteran defender Ashtone Morgan is re-signing in Hamilton.

Forge FC announced Monday that the soon-to-be 32-year-old Canadian left-back agreed to a new deal ahead of the 2023 Canadian Premier League season.

Morgan was a regular on the backline, playing an essential role in Forge’s third CPL championship in 2022.

“We are very happy to have Ashtone re-sign with our club,” said Forge Director of Football and Business, Costa Smyrniotis. “He brought such valuable experience to our team on and off the field last season, and I have no doubt he will have a similar positive influence on the group going forward.”

Morgan made 27 appearances for Forge in 2022, scoring once and adding two assists.

Before joining Forge, the 5-foot-9 defender spent more than a decade in Major League Soccer (MLS); two seasons with Real Salt Lake (2020-21) and a ten-year stint (2010-19) with Toronto FC.

Overall, he suited up for 168 appearances with Toronto FC,  tallying three goals and 14 assists.

The Toronto native also has 18 caps for the Canadian national team after making his debut at 20 years old in 2011.
