Tropical fish were reported stolen from an Ontario restaurant.

The theft of fish and cash happened in the early morning hours of April 11, OPP said in a press release on April 16.

The culprit took cash and tropical fish from an aquarium in the restaurant in the Town of Beachburg, a small community northeast of Ottawa, police said.

Police didn’t name the restaurant but multiple news reports say it was the Beachburg Restaurant, a Chinese-Canadian spot that has been in the community for around 30 years.

The cash wasn’t what the thieves were after, the restaurant owners told reporters. It was the tropical fish, along with expensive fish food, plants and other aquarium essentials, which are reportedly worth thousands of dollars.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of an OPP Forensic Identification Services officer.
