With nearly two dozen licensed cannabis retailers operating in Oshawa, one cannabis lover with an entrepreneurial spirit thought the police wouldn’t notice one more.

They noticed.

After an investigation into an unlicensed cannabis dispensary in Oshawa, members of the Central East Division Community Response Team executed a search warrant at ‘Oshaweed,’ an unlicensed cannabis dispensary on King Street West. Officers seized cannabis, cash and other cannabis products worth a combined value of more than $66,000.

A 47 year-old Oshawa woman has been charged with possess cannabis for the purpose of selling. She was released on an Undertaking.

The arrest comes as signs of saturation in the market are beginning to show, with 32 stores closing around Ontario – mostly in Toronto – in the past year, with nearly 50 more dispensaries listed for sale.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact Sgt. Green of Central East Division – Community Resource Team at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1747.
