Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic can get a helping hand thanks to the United Way.

Region of Peel employees and the Peel Regional Police Service raised nearly $260,000 through personal donations and fundraising events in support of United Way Greater Toronto last year.

The funds will help United Way meet the urgent needs of Peel residents who have been affected by the ongoing effects of the pandemic.

Daniele Zanotti, president and CEO of United Way Greater Toronto, says Peel residents already facing poverty were hit particularly hard by the pandemic.

Zanotti said the funds will help women and children escaping violence to access safety supports, provide food support to families living on a low income, and help reduce social isolation for seniors among other initiatives.

“Your phenomenal fundraising efforts will ensure that your neighbours in Peel get the help they need, close to home,” Zanotti said.

The campaign’s fundraising goal of $200,000 was shattered with $257,799 raised in 2021, bringing the funds raised through Region of Peel employee United Way campaigns to more than $3.1 million over the last decade.

Over 155,000 Peel residents have received assistance from United Way Greater Toronto through more than 55 agencies that deliver over 90 programs to communities across Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga.
