Two towers with 543 rental units proposed for Mississauga, public meeting next month

A proposal to build two rental apartment towers with up to 543 rental apartment units will be the subject of an upcoming public meeting.
The development is proposed for 1000 and 1024 Dundas Street East, west of Dixie Road between Stanfield Road and Haines Road.
A used car business operates at 1000 Dundas St. E., and a furniture store, HCD Furniture, was at 1024 Dundas St. E. but that business has closed.
Last July, Ahmed Developments Inc. announced a proposal for two towers of 16 and 20 storeys over a four-storey podium with a total of 462 rental units.
But the owners now want to have the option of adding studio rental apartment units and decreasing the number of three-bedroom rental apartment units as well as changing the proportion of one- and two-bedroom rental apartment units in the building.
So, they are looking for amendments to the Official Plan and zoning bylaw to permit up to a maximum of 543 purpose-built rental apartment units on the site.
The units would be approximately 780 square metres, which would accommodate a variety of apartment unit layouts.
The proposal includes retail and commercial units on the ground floor along Dundas Street.
“They shall have functional front door entrances from the street, the number of different types of commercial units within the proposed building will create an interesting, as well as vibrant pedestrian realm on Dundas Street East,” the planning justification report reads.
The development would also include outdoor amenity space on the roof of the four-storey podium and at grade.
A total of 924 square metres of indoor amenity space is proposed.
Ward 1 Councillor Stephen Dasko is hosting a community virtual meeting on the project on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Find out more on Coun. Dasko’s website.
