A 16-year-old boy had to be airlifted by AirOrnge to a Toronto trauma centre with life-threatening injuries after a fiery single vehicle collision in rural north Whitby Thursday evening.
A 17-year-old was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Durham Police said an Audi sedan was travelling northbound on Duffs Road, south of Townline Road, at 8:30 p.m. when the driver lost control, went off the roadway, and caught fire. Officers arrived on scene and discovered two occupants still in the vehicle.
The 16-year-old’s condition has since been upgraded to stable.
Members of the Durham Police Collision Investigation Unit were on the scene and the roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
