Police were out in numbers in central Oshawa Saturday afternoon after reports of gun shots on Court Street.
Two people were later found with gun shot wounds, with one treated at Oshawa Hospital and the other taken to a Toronto trauma centre, police said.
Both men are now listed in stable condition.
More than a dozen police cars were staked out at the top of Court Street and on Emma Street at the southern edge of the city’s downtown as investigators, along with the K9 Unit, searched the area – including a wooded area to the east of Court Street – and knocked on doors to try and find the shooter.
Multiple shell casings were found and at least one vehicle was found with bullet holes but the suspect in what witnesses are claiming to be a drive-by shooting has not yet been caught.
Durham Regional Police said the investigation is ongoing.
