Netflix star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan of Mississauga surprised visitors at Fan Expo on the weekend.

Ramakrishnan, who starred in the hit Netflix show Never Have I Ever, dressed as Donatello from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. She joined Marvel star Iman Vellani who is also from the GTA.

Vellani came as Jubilee, a mutant member of the X-Men.

Ramakrishnan posted photos to her Instagram story on Sunday (Aug. 27) showing her and Vellani in cosplay and enjoying the expo.

Photos on Ramakrishnan appear to show her in the underground garage at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Neither star was listed as an official celebrity guest on the Fan Expo website. The list included stars such as Christina Ricci, Hayden Christensen and Charlie Cox.

The four-day annual Fan Expo wrapped up Sunday with an estimated 135,000 fans crowding into the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

This year, the labour dispute that shut down movie and television production in May (the SAG-AFTRA actors’ union joined the Writers Guild of America on the picket lines in July), made this year’s event a bit different.

Some celebrities cancelled and others had limitations on what they could talk about.

Nevertheless, fans of Ramakrishnan and Vellani seemed to like that the two stars decided to crash the event.

“She’s (Vellani) like the Real Marvel Fan out of Everyone in marvel she even makes marvel comics now. Can’t beat that,” one person posted on Reddit.

“Best teenage mutan [sic] ninja turtle,” another person wrote.
