Toronto man caught after pulling gun, fleeing Pickering accident

A Toronto man is in police custody after he pulled a gun and then fled the scene after a car accident in Pickering Thursday night.

The 23 year-old was caught after a brief pursuit with the help of Air1 and Durham Police called in  the K9 Unit to help locate a loaded gun and spent casing that was found nearby.

West Division officers responded to a call for an armed person just before 11 p.m. after a man was seen fleeing from a collision with another vehicle while brandishing a firearm. The accident happened near Brock Road and Palmers Sawmill Road.

The suspect quickly fled the area on foot and then witnesses heard a gunshot. Police located the suspect and took him into custody.

Minor injuries were suffered by both drivers.

Thaksan Kulatheeswaran was charged with 12 offences, including operation while impaired; possess loaded or restricted firearm and careless handle firearm. He was held for a bail hearing.
