One Brampton neighbourhood is reporting high COVID-19 positivity

One area in Brampton is among those with the highest COVID-19 percent positivity rates (percentage of positive COVID-19 tests in the area) in Ontario.

Toronto-based research group ICES listed postal code areas in Ontario with the highest percent positivity rates for the week of August 29 to September 4.

Of the top 50 listed, one is in Brampton: Postal code L6V (area of Williams Pkwy and Kennedy Rd N), which is reporting 7.98% positivity.

L6V is the area with the 36th highest COVID-19 positivity in Ontario.

The same data for the week indicates that out of all of Ontario’s 34 public health units, Peel Region (Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon) has the sixth worst COVID-19 percent positivity in the province, higher than Ontario overall.

For all Ontario residents, the overall percent positivity among those tested for COVID-19 during the week of August 29 was 3.4%, an increase of 0.2% from the previous week.

According to Peel, the map shows a crude incidence rate defined as the total number of new cases within a specific time period divided by the total population and multiplied by 100,000.

For the week of August 29 to September 4, Peel reports 188 new cases in Brampton and 457 new cases in the region overall.
