The City has put a hiatus on issuing burn permits in Brampton as a precaution due to dry conditions and risk of fires.

Brampton Fire and Emergency Services said on Tuesday (June 6) that the City of Brampton has put a temporary ban on burn permits due to dry conditions.

The City bylaws don’t allow for open-air burning without a permit, and the hold on permits means there’s a pause on all open-air fires in Brampton until further notice.

A lack of moisture and dry conditions also caused an open-air fire ban in Caledon last week as officials say there’s an “extreme” fire risk in the area.

The dry conditions also led BFES to warn residents to be careful when cooking outdoors with solid fuel or fuel-fired BBQs and appliances.

Firefighters battled a large grass fire near a Brampton school and business park last week, and wildfires have been raging across the country. Environment Canada has also issued an air quality statement for Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, Hamilton and much of southern Ontario due to smoke from fires in Quebec.
