Teens from Brampton and Montreal charged with possession of car theft tools

Five teenage boys including one from Brampton are facing over a dozen combined charges related to potential vehicle thefts.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday (June 4), the OPP say officers from the Hawkesbury Detachment stopped a vehicle on Main St. in the town of Hawkesbury, approximately 110 kilometres east of Ottawa on the Quebec provincial border.

Police say they found five teenage boys in the vehicle in possession of tools used to steal cars.

All five of the occupants were arrested and are facing charges related to vehicle thefts.

Delphin Tsomba Tabona, 18, of Brampton has been charged with:

  • Possession of Automobile master Key tool
  • Possession of break in instruments
  • Possession of proceeds from property obtained by crime under $5,000

Roland Jeudy, 18, of Montreal has been charged with:

  • Possession of Automobile master Key tool
  • Possession of break in instruments
  • Possession of proceeds from property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (3 counts)
  • Failure to comply with Undertaking

Jaheed Phanor, 18, of Montreal has been charged with:

  • Possession of Automobile master Key tool
  • Possession of break in instruments
  • Possession of proceeds from property obtained by crime under $5,000

A 17-year-old male from Montreal has been charged with:

  • Possession of Automobile master Key tool
  • Possession of break in instruments
  • Possession of proceeds from property obtained by crime under $5,000

Another 17-year-old male from Montreal has been charged with:

  • Possession of Automobile master Key tool
  • Possession of break in instruments
  • Possession of proceeds from property obtained by crime under $5,000

The accused have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the L’Orignal Court of Justice on July 6.

Because two of the youths are under 18 years old their names cannot be published according to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The OPP say that following these tips can help prevent vehicle theft:

  • Always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the doors and pocket the key
  • If you have a garage, use it and lock the door as well as your vehicle
  • Park other vehicles behind your high value vehicle to act as a deterrent to thieves
  • Install an aftermarket anti-theft device in your vehicle in a location not easily visible
  • Install a third-party GPS tracking device in the vehicle
  • Keep your vehicle key fobs in a Faraday Box
  • Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running
