Teen who was stabbed on bus in Mississauga expected to survive: police

A teenage boy who suffered life-threatening injuries after being stabbed on board a transit bus in Mississauga early Tuesday morning is now in stable condition, police say.

The 17-year-old was initially treated by Peel Paramedics and Peel Regional Police officers who responded to the Hurontario Street/Watline Avenue scene, just north of Matheson Boulevard, a few minutes before 2 a.m.

The boy, who was riding a Route 17 MiWay bus when he was stabbed, was subsequently rushed to a trauma centre for treatment of what were described at the time as critical injuries.

Peel police told INsauga.com on Wednesday the teen is now in stable condition in hospital.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old female who was taken from the scene of the altercation into police custody appeared in Brampton court on Tuesday for a bail hearing.

She’s charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon and obstructing a police officer.

Police described the altercation as an isolated incident and said early on Tuesday there was no threat to public safety in the wake of the stabbing.

Investigators said at a media briefing from the scene on Tuesday morning they believe the victim and accused are known to one another, but they didn’t provide specific details about the relationship nor did they say what may have led to the violent incident on board the bus.

A spokesperson for the City of Mississauga, which operates MiWay, told INsauga.com four passengers were on the bus when the stabbing took place.

The bus driver quickly reported the incident and city transit enforcement services officers were dispatched to the scene, the spokesperson added.

There were no other injuries.

Mississauga firefighters also responded to the early morning incident.
