Spring and summer getaways just got a little less expensive for those looking to fly to Atlantic Canada.

Ultra-low-cost airline Swoop just announced its expanded summer schedule, which includes several affordable options for travel from Pearson Airport in Mississauga to the east coast.

“As Canada’s leading ultra-not-expensive airline, we’re proud to be expanding our footprint from coast to coast with our summer schedule,” said Bob Cummings, president of Swoop, in a press release. “Convenience and affordability are paramount, so we’re focusing our ultra-not-expensive flights in true ULCC markets that enable more Canadians to explore their big, beautiful backyard.”

Starting in the last week of June, there are four flights weekly to Deer Lake, Newfoundland from Pearson Airport. The one-way fares range from $93 to $138 at the peak of summer. This is the second year Swoop has had service to Deer Lake.

“We are excited to welcome Swoop back for its second year to Deer Lake for the Summer 2023.”  said Tammy Priddle President and CEO Deer Lake Regional Airport.

Priddle said airline offers a more affordable option for families and travellers.

“It increases access for tourists to take in the many great experiences we offer in Western Newfoundland & Labrador.”

Deer Lake is close to Gros Morne National Park — a popular destination for hikers and those who enjoy nature.

The airline operates daily flights to St. John’s, Newfoundland from Hamilton in the summer.

There are also daily flights to Halifax from Pearson starting in late May. One-way fares range from $68 in the spring to $408 on some summer days.

Charlottetown flights from Pearson are near-daily and start at $128 one-way.

And those still looking to escape winter weather can head to Los Cabos, Mexico for under $200 one-way in March.
