Niagara police are investigating and searching for the suspects of a recent assault in Welland.

On Thursday, Dec. 9, a male in his twenties was walking in the area of the Pen Financial building (area of East Main Street and Burger Street).

“At this time, the victim was approached by a male in his twenties who spoke briefly with the victim and then began attacking him without any provocation,” said police. “The male was subsequently joined by two additional males and all three began punching and kicking the victim, who fell to the sidewalk suffering from serious injuries.”

Police say the males left for a brief period of time, then returned to the victim who was lying motionless on the sidewalk and began kicking and punching him again.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and is currently in stable condition.

The suspects are believed to have left the area in a dark SUV. No further suspect description is available at this time, but detectives are looking to release photos of the suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-688-4111 ext. 1002200 or Crime Stoppers.
