Suspected armed man arrested after stand-off in Oshawa

A man was arrested in Oshawa after he was allegedly spotted with a weapon and barricaded himself in a downtown home.
The man was seen potentially armed with a pistol around 11 a.m. on April 9. Durham Police allege he carried the firearm into an apartment building on Colborne Street and Mary Street.
The responding officers confirmed which unit the man entered and set up a perimeter around the building.
Negotiators were brought in to coax the man to surrender but were unsuccessful. However, they did learn there were four other people in the apartment.
Officers on the ground saw two pistols thrown out the apartment window. Once the pistols were found, police learned they were airsoft replicas.
Under Canadian law, crime committed while armed with an imitation firearm are treated as though the gun were real.

Shortly afterwards, the negotiators managed to get all five people out of the apartment. All five were arrested. Other officers raided the place and found another airsoft pistol in a full mop bucket.
Witnesses on scene said the were at the building for several hours until at least 3:30 p.m. Later, four of those arrested were released unconditionally without charges.
The fifth, Treven Green, 31 of no address, was charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, obstruction of a peace officer, and failure to comply with a release order. He will remain in custody until a bail hearing.
