Although summer will look very different this year, parents might be happy to hear that they can send their children to city-run day camps in Mississauga.

At a June 17 press conference, Mayor Bonnie Crombie announced that summer camps will be open starting July 6. The camps will run for nine weeks from 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

The Summer Fun Camp will run for children between the ages of four-and-a-half and 10 at all 11 community centres, as well as Meadowvale Village Hall and Port Credit Arena.

The city says spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

As far as health and safety concerns go, the city says it’s following the guidelines laid out by the Ministry of Health’s Summer Day Camp Guidelines which include physical distancing, small group sizes, health screening protocols and personal protective equipment use amongst staff members when physical distancing cannot be maintained.

The city says there will nine children and one facilitator for each group and that groups will not be permitted to mix or co-mingle. Parents should note that children must bring their lunch and that there will be no swimming, pizza days or field trips.

Registration starts on June 22 at 8:30 a.m and residents can register online

If camps are full, residents are encouraged to select the waitlist option.
