Stunting motorcycle clocked nearly twice the speed limit in Caledon

Motorcycle season got off to a rough start for one rider who police say was caught cruising nearly two times the speed limit in a 50 km/h zone.

The OPP said on Thursday that officers stopped a motorcycle on Olde Baseline Road in Caledon after clocking the driver at a high rate of speed.

Police say the rider was going 96 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.

A picture of the incident shared by police shows what appears to be a sportbike-style motorcycle hooked up to the back of a tow truck.

Police say the rider was hit with a 30-day driver’s licence suspension and the motorcycle has been impounded for 14 days.

The high-speed traffic stop has police reminding motorcycle riders and all drivers to stick to the speed limit to avoid fines, penalties or injury.

“If you don’t want to get stopped by the 5-0, then adhere to the 50kmh (sic) speed limit,” police said in the post

Drivers can face a minimum of a one-year licence suspension if convicted of a stunt driving offence for the first time with “more severe penalties” for further convictions.
