Stunt driving charge laid in Mississauga after car spotted doing nearly double the speed limit

A 21-year-old motorist has been charged with stunt driving after police spotted a car travelling at nearly double the posted speed limit in Mississauga.

Peel Regional Police Road Safety Unit officers say they recently pulled over a vehicle that was travelling at 112 km/h in a 60 km/h zone near Mavis Rd. and Courtneypark Dr.

The driver, who holds a class G2 licence, had their licence suspended for 30 days and the car was impounded for two weeks.

Stunt driving is partially defined as travelling in a vehicle at 40 km/h or more over the speed limit in areas where the posted limit is 80 km/h or lower.

This is just the latest in a rash of stunt driving charges laid by Peel police as they continue to crack down on speeding on Mississauga and Brampton roads.

In fact, just a few weeks ago, police laid another stunt driving charge in the same area of the city.

A 19-year-old was charged with stunt driving after police pulled over a car for travelling at 151 km/h in a 60 km/h zone near Mavis Rd. and Courtneypark Dr.

The driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and the car was impounded for 14 days.

Also several weeks ago, a dealership worker was charged with stunt driving in a customer’s car after police stopped a vehicle for doing more than twice the speed limit near Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

A 22-year-old man was reportedly stopped by police who had clocked a car travelling at 122 km/h in a 50 km/h area of Derry and Airport Rds.

The man charged had his licence suspended for 30 days and the car was impounded for 14 days.
