String of car break-ins and ensuing credit card fraud in Whitby leads to charges against an Oshawa man

A Whitby man faces numerous charges following a string of car break-ins. Bank and credit cards taken from the vehicles were later used to make numerous purchases.
Several Brooklin residents in the Columbus Rd E and Thickson Rd N area found their ID and bank cards missing from their unlocked cars throughout March.
The cards were later used at several gas stations throughout Whitby to make a variety of purchases.
On May 21 Durham Regional Police made an arrest in the case without incident.
Joshua Larcenaire, 30 of Oshawa, is charged with; three counts of theft under $5,000, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and personation to gain advantage. He will remain in custody until a bail hearing.
As a result of this investigation Durham police released some advice to locals about how to keep your stuff safe in the back seat.

Firstly, easy one, always lock the car doors and roll the windows all the way up. Park in a brightly lit area or set up some motion powered lights.
Police also advise never leaving money or valuables in the car. Drivers also should not keep any important paperwork in the car, such as banking documents, as identity thieves look for documents like these. Keep proof of insurance and registration papers though.Hide any GPS devices out of sight and never leave a car idling unattended, police say.
