A Hamilton woman is facing murder charges after Niagara Police arrested her following a deadly collision in Grimsby yesterday (Feb. 26).

Police responded to a collision call in the Ridge Road West and Mountain Rd. area at 8:40 pm last night and found a car stuck in a ditch.

An 82-year-old woman in the car showed no vital signs and was pronounced dead at the hospital. There was also a 79-year-old man in the car who was rushed to an out-of-town hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Police believe their vehicle was “allegedly intentionally struck by another vehicle,” with the impact propelling it into a ditch. They arrested the driver of the other car.

The police said they don’t believe the people in the two cars knew each other.

Sonya Sekhon, 44, of Stoney Creek, has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder.

Sekhon was held in custody for a bail hearing today (Feb. 27) at the courthouse in St. Catharines.
