Three people have been charged after police say they found stolen vehicles with swapped licence plates linked to an “organized crime group,” police say.
The investigation into a crime ring linked to stolen vehicles started in December, Peel Regional Police said in a release on Monday.
Investigators say the group has been linked to multiple stolen vehicles, stolen tractor trailers and auto-related fraud.
The investigation led police to a home in Brampton on Jan. 8 where officers say they found three vehicles that had previously been reported stolen.
All the vehicles were “equipped with fraudulent Ontario licence plates,” police say.
Three people were arrested and charged with multiple offences.
Peel police say Amritpal Khattra, 28, Gurtas Bhullar, 33, and Mandeep Kaur, 32, were all arrested and charged with multiple offences.
Police say Khattra and Bhullar were on court-imposed release orders in relation to property offences at the time of their arrests. Both were held pending a bail hearing, while Kaur was released on an undertaking with conditions.
