A Mississauga man who was being sought by police looking into the theft of a delivery van in Toronto several months ago was arrested and charged on Friday.
Toronto Police said the man faces multiple charges in connection with the incident last Oct. 4 at around 9 a.m. in which the van was stolen moments after its driver had stepped out to make a delivery, leaving the vehicle briefly unattended, in the Danforth Avenue and Jones Avenue area.
A man then got into the van, fled the scene “recklessly” and refused to stop for police, investigators said in an earlier news release.
The stolen vehicle was recovered a short time later by police after it had been abandoned.
Farshad Bagheri, 51, of Mississauga, is charged with:
- Theft motor vehicle
- Fail to stop for police/pursuit
- Dangerous operation
- Possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000
- Fail to comply with release order (two counts)
He was scheduled to make a first court appearance in Toronto this past Friday.
The investigation continues and police ask anyone with relevant information to call them at 416-808-5500 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.
