Durham police recovered cars worth more than $1 million after a raid in Whitby.

A police raid in Whitby has recovered several stolen cars worth more than $1 million.

Officers spotted a stolen Lexus SUV near Warren Rd. and Hopkins St., an industrial area toward the town’s south end, shortly before noon on Apr. 27. The officers investigated further and found more stolen cars nearby.

Police followed up with a raid the next day and found 11 total stolen cars including 10 Lexus SUVs and a Range Rover. Investigators estimate the cars to be worth more than $1 million collectively with Chief Peter Moreira calling it a “significant recovery.”

The cars had been stolen from across the Greater Toronto Area including from Durham, Halton, Niagara, and York regions, as well as Toronto itself. Investigators are working to match the cars with their rightful owners.

Police have not announced any arrests or charges in connection with the case. Likewise, they have not shared any suspect information.
