St Catharines MP Chris Bittle and city Mayor Walter Sendzik got together yesterday (July 22) with a huge announcement about the growth of the St Catharines trail system.

The federal government has given the City a $824,000 grant to support improvements and the development of new trails in St. Catharines.

Coupled with a Provincial grant of $206,000, that’s over $1 million in funding for the City’s trail system.

“Trails like a new connection between John Page Park on Scott Street and the Fairview Mall make it easier for residents to travel within neighbourhoods without relying on cars,” said Bittle.

“During the pandemic we also saw how important it was for residents to be active safely outdoors and this funding will help ensure St. Catharines’ trail infrastructure is well maintained now and into the future,” he continued.

These trail improvements were identified in the City’s Active Transportation Plan and this announcement will help accelerate a 10-year-plan by three to five years.
