St. Catharines has now officially designated Market Square as a warming centre during 2022.

The farmer’s market, located at 91 King Street, will open as weather dictates.

“During instances of extreme cold weather the City opens daytime warming centres to provide shelter for individuals without other options to escape the cold,” said the city in a release.

“The City will typically open centres when a cold weather advisory has been issued by Environment Canada. Centres will open on an ad hoc basis outside of warnings as conditions require. You can find details related to location(s) and open hours-dates for warming centres as they are determined.”

They added that since the Omicron variant continues to over-run the region, “COVID-19 protocols in place with a max capacity of 30 individuals. Masks are required and will be made available to those without.”
