St. Catharines man in critical condition with suspicious injuries

An St. Catharines man was sent to hospital with injuries that police say are suspicious.

The man, Raymond “Ray” Riley, 31, was found in medical distress on Aug. 27 at approximately 1:30 a.m.in the area of Queenston Street and Riordon Street in St. Catharines, said Niagara Regional Police Service in a Sept. 7 press release.

The man was sent to hospital by Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics where he remains in critical condition. On Sept. 1, a family member contacted police to say the injuries are suspicious.

Police are appealing to the public for information on how Riley was injured and tracing his movements on Aug. 27.

Ray is described as a six feet tall, white man, approximately 160 pounds with brown, medium length wavy hair. He has dark coloured facial hair, hazel eyes and tattoos on his left hand.

When transported to the hospital, he was wearing black canvas, casual shoes with white outsole, black Champion socks with pink lettering, black Ecko Unltd. sweatpants, black Nike shorts with grey stripe down either side, and a black baseball hat with large Marvel Avengers design.

Detectives have reason to believe Riley was been walking along Queenston Street with an unknown woman prior to the assist ambulance call.

Anyone (residents or businesses) in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between 12:30am and 1:30am on Aug. 27.
