The back area of Market Square, shown here, will be filled with vendors starting tomorrow as the Farmers' Market expands outdoors.

Starting tomorrow (May 13), St. Catharines Farmers Market is opening things up to the great outdoors.

The back portion of the parking lot will see new vendors stationed outside, a move that adds as much as 50 per cent on top of the indoor vendors at Market Square (91 King St.)

The Farmers Market hours will remain the same – Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. – but will offer a significantly variety of easily accessible goods including baking, cured meats, flowers and gifts with the outdoor vendors.

Acknowledging that it’s one of the oldest markets in the province, the city says, “Since the early 1860s, the market has been a vibrant scene that offers fresh foods and handmade items from the local area.”

“Visitors enjoy connecting and learning from the local vendors who grow and produce the meats, fruits, veggies and baked goods. It’s a thrilling farm-to-table experience you don’t want to miss.”

The annual Music in the Square concerts are also starting up tomorrow and running until Oct. 14, featuring local performers live on the Market stage from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
