A biker pulled over by Niagara Police yesterday (May 18) morning for not having plates decided that he didn’t feel like sticking around, taking off at a high speed.

Police pulled him over at 9:35 am in the Queenston Street and Frank Street area of St. Catharines and while he initially stopped, it wasn’t for long.

Rather than risk a dangerous, high-speed pursuit, the officer went into a local business and got surveillance photos of the biker. The police then put out a public appeal, looking if anyone could identify him.

Eventually he was identified and at 3:40 pm, he was in the Wills Street and Queenston Street area in St. Catharines.  Seeing the police, the man went into his house and wouldn’t come out. The police got a search warrant and at 9:10 pm, found him hiding in the attic.

The motorcycle, which was stolen, was found in his backyard. It also turned out the suspect was previously wanted for failing to appear for court.

Paul Hrebeniuk, 41, of St. Catharines has been charged with flight from a peace officer. He was held in custody for a video bail hearing today (May 19) at the courthouse in St. Catharines. Police say further charges are anticipated.
