First heat event warning in effect for Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton and Halton Region

It’s going to be very hot in Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton and Halton Region this week.

Environment Canada warns of hot and increasingly humid weather expected for Monday and into Tuesday as well, calling it the “first heat event of the season”.

The special weather statement is in effect for Burlington, Oakville, Caledon, Hamilton, Halton Hills, Milton, Mississauga and Brampton.

Temperatures will reach near 30 degrees Celsius on Monday in many areas. Monday night, the temperatures are forecast to briefly dip to the mid to upper teens.

With the humidex it can read up to 37 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Maximum temperatures on Tuesday will be in the low thirties. Little relief from the heat is expected with the minimum forecast temperatures in the low twenties in many areas.

Cooler air is expected to arrive Wednesday.

These conditions pose a health risk at the beginning of the season when residents are not used to the heat.

Everyone is at risk from the heat, especially older adults, people with chronic illnesses, infants and young children.

Environment Canada reminds residents to drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty and keep cool by dressing for the weather and spending more time in a cool place.
