Some residents report being targeted by Uber text scam

Published June 13, 2021 at 9:35 pm

If you got a suspicious text from the popular ride-sharing app Uber, it’s most likely a scam.

A local resident recently reported getting a text message that claimed to be from Uber, alleging they had received money due to an over-charge issue.

The app provides a suspicous link.

While Uber isn’t new to fraudulent texts and scams, residents should be particularly wary of texts that provide a link to click on, as they can be used to steal personal information.

Anyone who gets a scam text is advised to delete it and block the number.
