Smoke plumes may be visible from Pearson Airport in Mississauga today but there is no need for concern.

The airport announced the Fire and Emergency Services Training Institute is planning a fire emergency training exercise until 4 p.m. today (April 29), according to a post from the airport.

“As a result, you may see plumes of smoke coming from where this training is being held,” the post read.

The Fire and Emergency Services Training Institute is a private college located on Courtneypark Drive East in Mississauga, just steps from the airport.

The institute is also part of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority’s fire department, Pearson officials note. The Greater Toronto Airports Authority operates Pearson Airport.

Emergency training exercises happen regularly at the airport. The Fire and Emergency Services Training Institute held a training drill earlier this month.

And last year a full-scale emergency exercise involved a simulated plane crash, with about 400 members of the airport community, partners and volunteers playing the roles of crew members and passengers.
