A sixth suspect has been arrested by police linked to the 2023 murder of a Bowmanville couple.

On Saturday (Feb. 4) 2023, shortly before 1 a.m., three armed and masked individuals approached a home on Crombie Street in Bowmanville.

Durham Regional Police say the suspects entered the house of Aram Kamel, 28, and his wife Rafad Alzubaidy, 26, and fatally shot both occupants at close range. Additionally, Ms. Alzubaidy was six months pregnant at the time of her murder.

According to investigators, it was several hours later, after a 911 call requesting a wellness check on the couple, before the victims were discovered.

Police publicly identified the couple on Feb. 8. Alzubaidy, was a Toronto jewelry store owner who had a workshop at the Bowmanville residence.

Just over a year following the incident, on March 8, (2024) three suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in the double homicide.

A week later on March 14, two more suspects were taken into custody in relation to the murders, bringing the total up to five arrests.
