Siblings win $1M prize after playing lottery for over a decade in Mississauga and Brampton

After over a decade of playing lottery games together as a family, three siblings from Mississauga and Brampton have scored a $1 million payday.

Ana and Francisco Nunes live in Mississauga and have spent the last 16 years playing Lotto 6/49 with their brother Marco from Brampton.

The Nunes family’s persistence paid off last month when the three siblings discovered they’d won the $1 million Gold Ball Draw on Feb. 14.

The Valentine’s Day win was first discovered by Ana who said she called her two brothers to share the good news.

“Marco was in tears, and Francisco jumped for joy,” Ana said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up the family’s winnings. “Everyone was excited.”

Now with $1 million in the bank, the Nunes family says they plan to spend the money to pay off bills, travel and help their children financially. And while it took 16 years for the family to win the jackpot, Francisco said he always had a feeling he would win big someday.

Lotto 6/49 offers players a chance to win two multi-million dollar jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday, for the same $3 per play. The Classic Draw offers a fixed $5 million jackpot for every draw, while the Gold Ball Draw guarantees a $1 million prize, or the growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can exceed $60 million.

The OLG says it supports safe play and responsible gambling through its PlaySmart program.

The winning ticket was purchased at Credit Woodlands Convenience on the Credit Woodlands in Mississauga.
