Shoe sale gone wrong: 14-year-old Barrie boy charged in armed robbery in Pickering

Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy after an investigation into an armed robbery of shoes in Pickering in late January.

Durham Regional Police responded to an armed robbery near Westcreek Drive and Pine Grove Avenue in Pickering in the early evening of Jan. 29.

Police allege a teen had arrived at the scene to buy a pair of shoes and was confronted by three males wearing masks, who brandished a firearm and demanded cash. The suspects then fled.

The victim did not suffer any physical injuries.

On Tuesday, West Crime Team investigators, with the assistance of the Community Response Unit, visited a high school in Barrie and took one of the suspects into custody.

Two suspects remain outstanding.

A 14-year-old from Barrie is charged with robbery with a firearm and possession of stolen property. He was held for a bail hearing.
