More charges of sexual assault have been filed against a Whitby restaurateur after four more victims have come forward.

James Chatterpaul, 55, owner and operator of Whitby’s iconic Chatterpaul’s at 3500 Brock St N, was first charged with sexual assault on Feb. 28.

The first victim, age 32, came forward to Durham Regional Police in January, alleging Chatterpaul had touched her inappropriately when she worked at his restaurant in 2010.

Following that initial announcement, police say four more victims came forward with allegations of a “sexual nature.”

The victims’ allegations date from 2005, when Chatterpaul worked at an Oshawa restaurant, to 2019. He launched Chatterpaul’s in 2008 alongside his business partner Penny Johansen.

Chatterpaul has since been charged with seven more counts of sexual assault. He has been released with conditions.

According to police, Chatterpaul often calls himself “Chef Chad” or “Chad.” Investigators are still trying to discern if any other victims have yet to come forward.
