Over a third of Canada’s World Cup team has ties to Brampton, and you can watch the teammates in their hometown at an official FIFA community watch party.
Brampton natives make up a solid portion of Canada’s team in the tournament, including Cyle Larin, whose game-tying goal against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Toronto on Friday pushed Canada to its first-ever point in a World Cup match.
Other Brampton players on this year’s team are Tajon Buchanan, Liam Millar, Jonathan Osorio, Promise David and Jayden Nelson – who was a late addition to Canada’s roster as a replacement for injured midfielder Marcelo Flores.
With such a large part of the team hailing from Brampton, the city has embraced the World Cup action with game screenings in Garden Square. And there’s plenty of soccer-themed activities and activations planned in Brampton for Canada’s next scheduled match on Thursday.
Brampton will be one of the last stops on the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Community Activation tour when Canada takes on Qatar, and the game will be screened live along with soccer-inspired programming, fan experiences and community activities in Garden Square.
And the action will continue on Friday for the Gold Medal match, also screened in Garden Square with FIFA and soccer inspired events.
“While not a host city, Brampton plays a defining role in Canada’s soccer story,” the city said in a release, “Local fields, community programs and neighbourhood clubs continue to develop elite athletes who represent Canada on the world stage,” adding that the city’s soccer legacy “spans both the Canada men’s and women’s national soccer teams and continues to shape the next generation of talent.”
Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said hosting the final stop on the national celebration tour “is a proud moment for our city.”
“It reflects Brampton’s deep connection to the game and recognizes the extraordinary impact our athletes, families, coaches and community builders continue to have on soccer in Canada,” Brown said.
Canada plays its next World Cup match against Qatar on Thursday at 4 p.m.
