Search ongoing near Burlington Lift Bridge for missing Toronto man

The Canadian Coast Guard has been aiding in the search of a missing Toronto man whose boat was found with no one on board Friday morning near the Burlington Lift Bridge. CANADIAN COAST GUARD IMAGE

A search is underway for a missing 84-year-old Toronto man after his boat washed up with no occupants near the Burlington Lift Bridge on Lake Ontario.

Toronto Police say Peter Ashby’s boat, named “Resolute,”  was found near the fisherman’s pier by the Burlington bridge around 2:30 a.m. on Friday morning.

Ashby was last seen leaving the Queen City Yacht Club on his white 27-foot sailboat at around noon on Thursday.

Members of the Royal Canadian Air Force Operations, Canadian Coast Guard and Toronto Police Service Marine Unit have continued their search for the missing man, Friday, near the Burlington canal.

Searchers had been scanning Lake Ontario in the early hours of Friday, using parachute flares to assist with the search.

He was last seen wearing beige shorts, a forest green jacket, white t-shirt with a fish on the back, a white ‘Tilley’ hat, and a watch with a black strap.
