Police had one Brampton high school on lockdown and put hold-and-secure orders in place at several others after a possible weapon-related incident on Monday.

Peel Regional Police say that officers were called to Heart Lake Secondary School on 296 Conestoga Drive in Brampton shortly before 1:30 p.m. after someone reported seeing a weapon in the area.

Investigators said they were working to confirm the reports, and that Heart Lake Secondary School has been placed on a full lockdown as a precaution. Several other schools in the area were also placed on hold-and-secure orders.

Police added there was “no active threat” but say school staff, students and nearby residents can expect to see officers on the scene while the investigation is underway.

The lockdowns and hold-and-secure orders were all lifted by around 2:15 p.m., police said.

A full lockdown is usually more serious than a hold-and-secure order, and can be used by police at schools as a precautionary measure to keep faculty and students safe during an emergency.
